Life is full of moments worth preserving. Journal Jar helps you capture them. You create an entry, add photos, and record how it felt. Later the app reminds you of that special moment again, for example on an anniversary. You can organize your moments into collections and share individual ones with friends or family. Your entries are end-to-end encrypted by default. This guarantees your memories stay private: not even we as the operators of the app can see your photos. Most comparable apps work differently.

Journal Jar is currently available for iOS. An Android version is in the works.

Yes, Journal Jar is free to download and use with text entries. The Premium subscription unlocks additional features. See the next question.

With Premium, you can add photos to your entries and create unlimited collections of your own. As soon as one member of a collection has Premium, everyone in that collection can add photos (provided they have full access, see above).

No. As soon as one member of the collection has Premium, all members with full access can add photos there. Members with the “Restricted” role can still only view and comment.

Yes! Journal Jar Premium works with Apple Family Sharing, so everyone in your family group can use it.

Data security is one of the core reasons for Journal Jar. Your data is stored exclusively on servers in Germany and is subject to GDPR. Your entries are end-to-end encrypted by default, so not even we as the operators could see their contents. We show no ads and do not sell your data to third parties. No AI is ever trained on your data.

We recommend enabling iCloud Keychain sync. It securely transfers your encryption keys to your other Apple devices using the same Apple Account. This way you can still access your encrypted memories after switching devices.

You can find the option under Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Passwords & Keychain. Our End-to-End Encryption page explains why this matters.

Yes, even without a Premium subscription. To create a backup copy of your memories:

1. Open Settings → Export Data in the app.
2. Select the collections you want to back up and tap Export.
3. The app creates a ZIP file. It contains your entries and collection details in a file called export.json, along with the photos as separate image files.
4. Save the ZIP file using the share menu, for example to the Files app.

Yes. You can delete your account and all your data at any time in the app. After a short waiting period they are irreversibly removed.
