What is Journal Jar?
Life is full of moments worth preserving. Journal Jar helps you capture them. You create an entry, add photos, and record how it felt to you. Later the app reminds you of it again, for example on an anniversary. You can organize your moments into collections and share individual ones with friends or family. All with the good feeling of knowing your data is end-to-end encrypted to prevent data leaks or AI models training on your data.
Which platforms is Journal Jar available on?
Journal Jar is currently available for iOS. An Android version is planned.
Can I share collections with others?
Yes! You can invite others to a collection and capture moments together. Ideal for couples, families, or close groups of friends.
Is Journal Jar free to use?
Yes! You can download and use Journal Jar for free. Many important features are free: creating entries, organizing collections, and sharing them. For the full feature set you need a Premium subscription.
What does Journal Jar Premium include?
With Premium you can add photos to your entries. You can also create as many collections as you like. Other members of your collections can add photos too, even if they do not have a Premium subscription. See the question below.
Do all members of a shared collection need a Premium subscription to add photos?
No! As soon as one person in the collection has a Premium subscription, everyone else can add photos too.
Does Premium support Apple Family Sharing?
Yes! Journal Jar Premium works with Apple Family Sharing, so everyone in your family group can use it.
Is my data private and secure?
Data security has mattered to us from the very beginning. Your data is stored exclusively on servers in Germany and is subject to GDPR. Your entries are end-to-end encrypted by default, so not even we as the operators could see their contents. We do not sell your data to third parties. Read more in our Privacy Policy.

Do I need iCloud Keychain for end-to-end encryption?

Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export your data at any time in the app, even without a Premium subscription.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. You can delete your account and all your data at any time in the app. After a short waiting period they are irreversibly removed.
What happens to my photos if I cancel Premium?
Your uploaded photos remain intact and visible. You can only add new photos again once you resubscribe to Premium.
